PCW Provided Nearly 400 Free Ultrasound Scans in 2019

Launched In-house Ultrasound Capability on March 4th, 2019

(Cincinnati, OH, January 20, 2020) – Pregnancy Center West (PCW) announced today the results of its client services operations during the 2019 calendar year.  For nearly 40 years, PCW has provided free services to women in crisis pregnancies, including free pregnancy tests and resources, such as diapers, baby wipes, formula, baby care supplies and clothing.  Several years ago, PCW began to offer free urine-based STD tests, and on March 4th, 2019 launched in-house ultrasound scan services.  In addition to these services and resources, PCW provides parenting classes, a mom’s group, and an in-school chastity education program.  All of PCW’s services and programs are offered at no cost to the clients.

During 2019, PCW provided nearly 600 free pregnancy tests, a 52.4% increase over 2018. Since the launch of ultrasound services on March 4th, 2019, PCW provided 358 free ultrasound scans.  “We’re delighted that we have the opportunity to support these women during an unexpected pregnancy,” stated Laura Yards, PCW’s Executive Director.  “The core of our mission is to be present to women in their time of need, to provide free services, free resources, an attentive ear and share with them God’s love for them and their unborn child.”

PCW’s staff and volunteers are dedicated to helping women in their time of crisis pregnancy.  Through our compassionate engagement and free services, many positive outcomes are obtained.  Here’s one such client story (identity changed): ‘Brandi,’ a newly pregnant college student, came into PCW one afternoon extremely distraught.  She had already had one abortion and wanted another. The PCW client advocate encouraged her to slow down, consider all her options and have an ultrasound scan to both confirm pregnancy and determine gestational age. When ‘Brandi’ saw her nine-week-old baby and heard the heartbeat, she decided to keep the baby. Her baby was born in the fall of 2019 and she describes him as the joy of her life!

In addition to the amazing results witnessed through PCW’s pregnancy-related services this past year, the Center provided its “The Body Matters” chastity education program to 2,338 students at 32 local schools during the 2018-2019 school year.  In the surveys completed by each student at the beginning and end of the week-long program, students’ commitment to chastity jumped from 58% at the start of the program to 75% at the conclusion of the program.  “These results show that students are willing to consider a different perspective on God’s plan for their lives and their bodies,” stated Nathanael Egan, Chastity Educator at PCW.  One local 8th grade student’s feedback: “The most helpful part was being able to know that committing to a chaste lifestyle is a good thing and that I don’t need to feel bad about my decision.”

Having served the local community for nearly 40 years, PCW is dedicated to its mission and looks forward to continued growth in the year ahead.  Having witnessed such strong growth in pregnancy-related services in 2019, PCW hired its first-ever Client Services Director, Beth Hegedus, who joined the organization on January 2nd, 2020.  “Our board is committed to PCW’s mission, and we’re investing to ensure that we are meeting the needs of the community and fulfilling our mission to build the culture of life in our local community,” stated Laura Yards. “We are grateful to the many volunteers and donors who make possible this life-affirming mission and look forward to meeting our clients’ needs in the year ahead.”
